Texas Steps Up Big Time

The Texas Bankers Association has stepped up to be a Platinum Sponsor of Friends of Traditional Banking. "This is such a critical year, we don’t want to just be a contributor, TBA wants to be ALL-IN," said president and CEO Chris Furlow.

The Texas Bankers Association is America’s oldest and largest state banking organization, and Chris Furlow will also represent the state on FOTB's Advisory Council. Furlow has led TBA since 2018. Previously, he was President of Ridge Global, an international risk management consulting firm, and was also Director for State Affairs in the White House Office of Homeland Security. In a career of nearly 30 years, he has served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce, aide to a member of the tax-writing House Ways & Means Committee, and political party leader at the state & national levels.

Banking Leaders Select Congressional Candidates to Watch

Friends of Traditional Banking's leadership teams have identified the following Congressional candidates that they are watching closely. We look for candidates who support banking, free markets, and access to capital that may be in tight races.

We will narrow the list throughout the next few months, culminating in two key races that bankers and allies around the country are encouraged to support. This laser focus has worked in past races to make a HUGE difference!

FOTB Leaders Hear from Rep. Andy Barr

Earlier this week, Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) held an exclusive Zoom visit with several dozen Friends of Traditional Banking leaders. "You all have been friends to me for years, " he said. "You are the backbone of the economy. The diversity of the banking sector provides financial stability and strength to America, and we need banks of all sizes."

Congressman Barr, who has been endorsed in past races by FOTB, spoke of his efforts on the House Financial Services Committee to improve the bank merger process, increase the timeliness of federal exams, fight against one-size-fits-all regulations, and assist in leveling the playing field for ag lenders. "We are laying the groundwork now to take to a new administration next year an American Dream Act that will unleash access to capital--imagine a Dodd-Frank Act in reverse," he said.

The New Reality of Phishing

A message from our sponsor BankOnITUSA:

What do Email, Text, social media, and Online Messaging all have in common? They can all be used to share memories from around the world, but they can also be used to distribute phishing attacks. The new reality of phishing is that they are using a multipronged approach; they are now reaching your social media feed, text messages, and phone calls.

Phishing is not just lurking in emails anymore. It's infiltrating our texts, social media feeds, and even phone calls. Scammers are getting crafty, using our trust and connections against us. From tempting offers on social platforms to urgent texts and slick voice calls, they're pulling out all the stops.

Friends of Traditional Banking is a non-partisan grassroots effort organized by bankers in 2012 to improve the political and regulatory environment for the traditional banking industry in the U.S. FOTB is the inverse of a PAC--instead of spreading a little bit of money to a lot of campaigns, they focus a lot of money on a couple of key campaigns.
